Panama City view

First visit to Panama

I just came back from Panama. An amazing country and the southernmost country of Central America. Panama is famous for it’s canal and revenue from the canal and the tourist industry are the main motors for the republics economy and make it the the fastest growing economy (2013) and the largest per capita consumer in Central America. the country has a lot to offer. Panama’s jungle is home to an abundance of tropical plants, animals and birds, some of them to be found nowhere else in the world, and that makes the country ideal for eco-tourism and all arround the country you find resorts popping up to accommodate the newcomers and the nouveau riche.

Nice and warm

Panama has a tropical climate. Temperatures vary only a little during the seasons. On a typical dry-season day in the capital city, the early morning minimum may be 24 °C and in the afternoon it will reach about maximum 30 °C. The temperature seldom exceeds 33 °C as I was told. Temperatures on the Pacific side are somewhat lower than on the Caribbean, and breezes tend to rise in the late afternoon in most parts of the country. Temperatures are markedly cooler in the higher parts like in Boquete (Chiriqui), and their are even locations high enough to expect frost en snow.

Growing tourism

Tourism in the Republic of Panama is rapidly growing. Especially eco-tourism is booming. Thousands of people wander around yearly in the beautiful tropical rain forests or visit the white sandy beaches along the shores of the Caribbean or Pacific cost. It makes it also a great place to photograph, especially for wildlife and landscape photographers. You do need to come prepared because of the sometimes extreme humidity, protection of your equipment is vital. One of the most beautiful places to visit is the area a Boquete in the Chiriqui province.

Boquete

Boquete is a small touristic village close to the volcano Barú, the tallest mountain in Panama and about 3,474 meters high. The village lays in a small valley surrounded by a dense tropical forest. Boquete has a very mild and pleasant climate due to it’s location and altitude in the Cordillera. An ideal place to shoot all types of photographs. To get to Boquete from Panama city you take either a plane to the David airport or a bus driving the Pan-american highway (about 7 hour) to arrive in David. From David you take a bus or taxi to Boquete (about 45 min ride). There are numerous hotels and hostels to accommodate you and lot’s of very good restaurants to choose from.
