The beautiful Oldedalen Valley
People from all over the world come to visit the famous Briksdal glacier (Briksdalsbreen) located between waterfalls and high peaks. This glacier is one of the most accessible and best known arms of the Jostedalsbreen glacier. The glacier is located in Jostedalsbreen National Park, the Jostedalsbreen ice cap extends unbroken for more than 60 kilometres.
The Briksdal glacier lies on the north side of the Jostedalsbreen, in Briksdalen (the Briks valley) which is located at the end of the Oldedalen valley, about 25 kilometres of the village of Olden. We hiked up from the mountain lodge, up to see the glacier. The walk is 3 km each way. The mountain lodge lies at the head of the Oldedalen Valley, and within walking distance of the Briksdal Glacier. Due to the ice condition at Briksdal Glacier, we where not able to walk the glacier. In fact it is very dangerous to move close to the glacier, and everyone going to visit the glacier is told they must respect the roadblocks. There is much movement in the glacier, and the danger of avalanches is high.
Here below some shots of the glacier and the surrounding mountains
