Chasing Winter Landscapes in Southern Spain

As readers of my other articles know, whenever snowfall reaches the Region of Murcia, you will almost certainly find me roaming the streets with a camera in hand. Murcia is internationally famous for its endless Mediterranean sunshine and arid landscapes, making a winter snowfall both a rare treat and a breathtaking spectacle. During one of these special weather events, I headed straight to El Sabinar, a charming high-altitude village nestled in the mountains of northwestern Murcia. Daily Life and Local Resilience on Snow Days

While fresh snow brings aesthetic beauty and creative inspiration for photography, it presents real daily challenges for the residents who live here. Slippery streets make walking particularly hazardous for older community members who call the village home. Because of this, early morning routines quickly turn into a collective effort to clear pathways. Long before the sun fully brightens the sky, locals head outdoors with brooms and shovels to scrape away the fresh ice and keep neighborhood streets safe and passable.
